By: Evans Okai Mab medical care has registered 400 children on the Ghana national health insurance scheme(NHIS) last week, during the lunching of
their new ultra modern clinic , known as the Mab international hospital at kwashieman - Accra. The Director of the hospital, Dr. Akuamoah Boateng
explained to health digest that the reason for registering the children on the (HNIS) is that children are the future leaders of the country .So,
ensuring their safety is essential to the development of the country. Along side was a health walk which started from the Darkuman junction to the
kwashieman. Dr. Akuamoah explained that, the reason for organizing the health walk was to create awareness and inform the public about the
ascendancy of non -communicable diseases in the country. He explained non communicable diseases to be ailments such as Hypertension, Diabetes,
Asthma,High blood pressure etc.which are not caused by bacterial or virus. Dr. Akuamoah continued that about 50 per-cent of the annually recorded
death cases in the world are caused by non- communicable diseases, which is very bad. the medical director noted that, the world health
organization (WHO) statistics in 2008 recorded 57 million death cases, and 36 million out of the 57 million were due to non- communicable diseases
. He complained that formally Africans were troubled with communicable diseases such as typhoid, tuberculosis, cholera,HIV/AIDS etc. But now the
trend is changing and most people are being diagnosed of non- communicable diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Asthma etc which is a clear
indication that Africans are not serious with their health as far as food and exercise are concerned. Dr. Akuamoah however advised that people
should be careful about their food intake and should also make physical body exercise a part and parcel of them.
He also said the door is
opened for any investor who would like to collaborate with Mab health care in order to achieve their aim of improving health care delivery in Ghana.
