The management of the Health Digest Communications has started a year long educative campaign to reduce HIV/AIDS stigmatization in Ghana. This is
the first time media practitioners in Ghana who have specialization in health and environmental issues have taken the task to reach out to the
remotest and deprived communities. According to the manager of the organization, Mr. Amponsah Boakye David who himself is an HIV/AIDS resource
person , their reason for embarking on such a year long programme in Ghana is to change the negative perceptions that many people have abut HIV/AIDS
infections in Ghana . According to the manager he have already imparted the knowledge about the HIV/AIDS to the staff of the media organization
and that all the workers there are very equipped with the spread ,prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in the country. He said, now that they are
well equipped the media organization with it editorial and marketing team staff are going to reach majority of the people living in the remotest
areas where access to information is limited . He said, the campaigners are going to meet the communities to have personal encounter with them in
their churches ,schools and through their chiefs and Elders to put the message across. “As media men and women, “we have already done our
research and evaluation work, and now we know how the education will go down with the people in such communities and we believe that our campaign
work will make serious impact in the communities’ Amponsah Boakye said. Health Digest staff have realized that the HIV/AIDS
stigmatization is fueling the spread of HIV infections and that much has to be done about it because the more the people get education on the
infection the more easy it becomes to prevent it . Health Digest is however embarking on this nationwide programme with about six people living
with HIV/AIDS for it to have an effective impact . According to the management Health Digest is still seeking sponsorships from the local and the
international organizations to enable them achieve the set objectives . Health Digest is going to sponsor a professional movie on HIV/AIDS
infection to disabuse people’s wrong perception about people living with HIV/AIDS in the society.
