Ms Patricia Kudjoe, Director of Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), has urged parents to educate their children about sexual and
reproductive health. She said when parents spent time discussing and explaining questions put up by their children on sexual and reproductive
health it would go a long way to prevent teenage pregnancy and pre-marital sex and other vices among the youth. Ms Kudjoe was speaking at a
graduation ceremony for “Young and Wise Club” members in Ghana Senior High school (GANASS) in Koforidua on Tuesday. The club was formed
to create awareness on HIV and AIDS and sensitise the youth on reproductive health issues to enable them to make responsible decisions and
choices. She said when young children reached adolescent age they were filled with excitement, new feelings and confronted with many unanswered
questions, changes and difficult choices. Ms Kudjoe said there was therefore the need for them to know the facts about their sexuality and learn
skills to help them plan for a successful future and healthy lives. She said during that period, young children were bound to have relationship
with their peers of either the same sex or opposite sex and also obligated to respect and love their families and learn how to make decisions on
their own. She therefore appealed to parents to spend more time guiding their young children with respect to enable them make right
decisions. Ms Stella Oye, Assistant Headmistress of GANASS, expressed appreciation to the founders of the club and called on them to extend it to
other schools. PPAG in collaboration with Ghana AIDS Commission brought the idea of forming the club, which was embraced by the New Juaben
Municipal Assembly. The Programme was sponsored by the Japanese International Co-operation Agency and the Municipal Assembly.
