Gov't: We'll Certainly Implement One-Time NHIS Payment Deputy Minister for Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Government says it remains
committed to the implementation of the one-time payment under the National Health Insurance Scheme. A statement signed by Deputy Minister for
Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa explained that President J. E. A. Mills remains committed to his manifesto promise and has ensured that the
appropriate studies and legal regimes are put in place to ensure smooth implementation when it commences. The statement follows what government
describes as conflicting news reports on government’s plans for the implementation of the policy it described as “a refreshing social
intervention policy and which studies have confirmed can be effectively implemented.” Government, the statement noted, wishes to assure the
people of Ghana that the introduction of the one-time payment will be in line with the provision of increased and improved health infrastructure
across the country to ensure easy access. “We have over the two years expanded our health facilities and will continue to add more relevant
equipment. There is a lot more to be done, and we will work hard to bring health care delivery closer to the people.”
