Terafirm soil errosion control is a sub product of the teragell company in the united state which have been imported into Ghana now.
speaking to the Health Digest News Nii Armaa Akomfra, Executive Director of harfmoka company limited who is the sole distributor of terrawet product in Ghana explained that, this product can be used to check erosion and this is done by applying it to the eroded area
and it will absorb water that attempts to pass on the surface of the soil and sinks it deep down
and release it in due season as moisture .
It only requires 4 to 8 gallons on an acre of land and it will take seven years before another application.
He added that the teragel crystal also absolves water in the soil and release it as moisture at the right time, once application will last for 7 to 10 years before another ,it also increases yield from 20 to 45%
The American product which is being used all over the world to boost productivity can help Ghana to increase national agric out put especially in the area of cocoa, Akomfra said.
He continued that the university of Ghana, has made the first trial of the product and the second trial was made by the ministry of food and agriculture and the CSIR , the third trial was also made by cocoa research institute which came out with a marvelous report "that not even a single plant died " it has also been tried at the greater accra, western region and kintampo which also resulted in a marvelous reports
The executive director noted that,based on all these trials,the general director of agric extension services has ordered all extension officers across the country to use these products in their various farming activities and the deputy minister for agriculture has also promised in a meeting to help import this product in bulk.
He stressed that teragell exist in two forms that is the gell which is used by mixing it with the soil or broad casting and the liquid which is used by spraying.
It can be used to fertilize any area which have lost its fertility for years,example the mining areas.
He lamented that,there has been several proposals sent to most of the mining companies in the country to give them a trial but they refuse.
Also in 2007 central university bought 24 bags to embark on afforestation and after the exercise not even a single tree was recorded dead up till now.
To this end, Akomfra requested that he only needs co-oporation of the mining companies to give him any piece of their exhausted land so that he can apply the product on it for them to see.
