Manhyia Number 4, a predominantly farming community near Sankore in Asunafo South District, has been hit by an outbreak of typhoid for the past one
month. About six people have so far been affected by the disease, which residents attributed to lack of potable drinking water. Two out of the
six victims have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment. Sankore also recorded two cases of the disease
since the beginning of the year with victims attending nature's call frequently and diarrhoea. Authorities at Saint John of God Hospital at Sefwi
Asafo in the Western Region detected the outbreak when the affected victims visited the facility for medication. Some residents in the area who
spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed regret about the lackadaisical attitude of some health personnel to the health needs of the people.Mrs.
Mariama Bawa, a resident, told the GNA the outbreak was detected a month earlier and was spreading. She appealed to the Asunafo Health District
Directorate to take immediate action to bring the situation under control. When contacted, Mr. Kingsley Arthur, District Disease Control Officer
confirmed the outbreak and said health personnel had been dispatched to the area.
